Graduation Requirements

Skyline High School’s curriculum is designed to prepare students for an entry level job and/or college entrance. Because requirements for both entry level jobs and college have become more rigorous, the basic requirements for graduation from high school have also become more rigorous.

It is very important for parents to carefully read their child’s report card and to check that he/she is on track for credits as well as GPA. Please check with your child’s counselor if you need help in evaluating his/her progress.

THE FOUR MINIMUM GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Students must acquire at least 230 credits in required subjects. One semester course = 5 credits. One year course = 10 credits. Most students graduate with 240 or more credits.
  • Students must have a final minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0.
  • Students must complete a Senior Project. Contact Ms. Lorna Shelton for more information.
  • Students must pass both the math and English-Language arts sections of the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE).

Cyber High meets before school, during lunch and after school. Contact Ms. Lydia Ropp in Room 102 or at roppskyline@yahoo.com for more information. Additional information regarding alternative schools, credit recovery, and extended learning opportunities can be obtained in the Counseling Office or at OUSDs College and Career Readiness Office at 879-2144.

The California High School Exit Exam

All tenth grade students are required by state law to take the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE). This test assesses student achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. All students, including those with disabilities, are required to pass both the ELA and math tests in order to graduate from high school.

Students have additional opportunities to take this test in grades 11 and 12 if they do not pass either or both sections of the test in grade 10. If your child needs to retake the test, speak with his/her counselor and teachers to understand the skills and concepts he or she most needs to improve in order to pass. Check www.cde.ca.gov for additional information on CAHSEE, including test questions and study guides, or with your childs teacher, counselor, or principal.
